An enraged lover, Luka Shuaibu, has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for attempted murder and causing grievous bodily hurt.
Shuaibu who is a diploma student in the Department of Tourism and Leisure Management, in Adamawa state Polytechnic, attempted to cut his girlfriend's throat after he suspected that she was unfaithful
to him.
His girlfriend, Sekina Ishaya, who is also a Tourism and leisure Management student, was attacked by her boyfriend in October 2016, after she was allegedly seen with another man.
The Chief Magistrate of the Yola magistrate court, Shehu Ahmad, who passed the sentence, said the court found the accused guilty of an attempt to commit murder and causing grievous bodily hurt to his female lover.
Ahmad further said that the sentence was based on testimonies as well as admission of guilt by the convict, adding that the parties could file an appeal if not satisfied with his judgment.
According to the police prosecutor, Akamu, the criminal was sentenced to seven years for committing grievous bodily hurt and another five years for attempted murder, without any option of fine.
